Canada national team training camp in Toronto has commenced with an impressive roster of NBA talents, including the likes of Jamal Murray.

However, the participation of the Nuggets’ guard in the upcoming FIBA World Cup remains uncertain, as the team keeps a close eye on his recovery and workload.

The General Manager of Canada Basketball, Rowan Barrett, highlighted the importance of being cautious with Murray, considering his recent demanding NBA season and recovery from an injury.

“He’s coming in after a very, very long season, coming off an injury…,” Barrett said, via Josh Lewenberg. “We need to be smart with him. He’s coming in very tired so we’ve gotta really watch him and work with our therapy team and make the right decision for him medically. He looks good so far.”

Murray played a pivotal role in the Nuggets’ success, helping them secure their first NBA championship. Averaging 20 points, 4 rebounds, and 6.2 assists per game during the 2022-23 season, his contribution was instrumental.

The 26-year-old point guard’s participation will be closely evaluated by the medical team throughout the training camp. Although Murray’s performance thus far has shown promise, Canada Basketball will prioritize his well-being and make a careful decision regarding his involvement in the FIBA World Cup.

As the rest of the Canadian camp remains set for the competition, Murray’s status will continue to be a significant talking point. Canada, grouped alongside France, Latvia, and Lebanon in Group H, is eager to assemble its best squad to compete at the prestigious event.
