Milwaukee Bucks general manager Jon Horst cleared the speculations on Giannis Antetokounmpo’s availability for the FIBA Basketball World Cup this year in the Philippines.
It was reported by Shams Charania of The Athletic that Antetokounmpo is uncertain to suit up for Greece after he underwent a clean up on his loose cartilage in his left knee two weeks ago. This raised doubts about the Bucks superstar’s international service for his home nation.
But Horst made it known that there’s no final decision being made yet if Giannis will indeed pass up the opportunity to suit up or not in the grand tournament.
“When it comes to our players’ health we always work collaboratively with the player, his representative, and our performance staff to make the best decision possible,” Horst told The Athletic. “In the case of national team play, we work with our partners in those federations also. No decision has been made on whether Giannis will be with the Greek national team this summer.”
The Greeks are slated to combat the United States, New Zealand and Jordan within Group C of the World Cup.
Should Antetokounmpo declare his ineligibility to play for Greece, the basketball-crazed Filipinos will miss another golden opportunity to see an NBA superstar perform on their home soil.
